Last night I ran my first ‘My Mindful Family and Me’ workshop which was really well received. Some of the lovely feedback included;
‘Jodie Smart is full of practical, useful ways to reduce your stress levels as a parent and has sent me home with lots to think about in terms of my work/life balance. I would highly recommend this workshop for anyone who wants an injection of calm!!’
‘loved this class tonight, love this business. I would encourage everyone to go and learn how mindfulness works. It can only make us better happier people’
One couple that attended felt that the workshop would benefit them by ‘bringing calm to their family and help their eldest daughter with anxiety and anger’ as well as realising how important it is to ‘take time to myself in order to benefit others.’
I was asked at the end, how participants could remember the things that they have learnt in a quick and easy way and I think SPACE sums it up.
Simplicity – Clear the clutter in your home, mind and life. Reduce busy schedules and remember that it is important to be as much as you do. Limit screen time and enjoy the simple life, encourage children to play in dirt, study a bug, paint a picture, take a walk and enjoy a more ‘back to basics’ way of life.
Pause – Pause and just be, pause when you feel overwhelmed, pause when thoughts begin to take over. You can pause anytime, anywhere. Focus on something, (breathing is usually easiest and most beneficial) observe, refocus and restart.
Awareness – Be aware of the world around you, aware of your senses and aware of your body, breathing, heart rate and sensations. Be aware in the moment and be aware of any changes.
Connection – Connect with yourself, connect with others and connect with the world around you. Where possible take time to give what you are doing or where you are 100% of your full and undivided attention, fully connected in the moment.
Enjoy – Have fun!!! Take a break from the seriousness of parenting and of life. Play, be silly, laugh, use your imagination, get creative and be spontaneous.
The world is problem centred, but you can turn it around for you and your family. Focus on what you want and make it happen. The more that you practice mindfulness, the easier it will become and talking from experience, it truly is a life changer.
