Our forward-thinking and innovative program introduces mindfulness to the Early Years and helps make BIG feelings child size! Children learn from a young age that feelings are a normal part of everyday life, everyone has them and that there are no bad feelings, every feeling is ok. Sunny Kids Shine firmly believe in working together for a brighter future, which is why our program is available online to Parents, Carers and Professionals alike.
The program consists of 4 phases:
Phase one is Identifying and labelling feelings – This is about supporting children to be able to recognise and label their feelings as well as being able to recognise feelings in other people building empathy.
Phase two is putting feelings into context – Thinking about why we might feel the way that we do. Children learn that whilst everyone has feelings, we may not always feel the same way about something and that’s ok. Feelings are something that happen within and what ever you feel or someone else feels is important. All of our feelings matter.
Phase three is managing feelings and incorporating mindfulness – This phase is supporting children to learn what they can do when they experience a feeling. It is not about fixing the feeling. Sometimes children may feel quiet, shy, sad, tired and that’s just how they are feeling. Just like us adults, children experience a range of emotions everyday. Some feelings simply need acknowledging, accepting and left to be.
Phase 4 is the link between feelings and behaviour – How we feel can affect how we behave and vice versa. This phase supports children to be in the moment and think about healthy ways that they can respond to a thought or a feeling rather than perhaps reacting sub consciously. It is ok to feel every feeling but how we feel does not excuse how we behave. It also supports them to think about positive things that we can all do to be kind to ourselves and each other.
Children will have fun learning through fun engaging activities with our feelings family and singing our catchy songs.
Both Parents/Carers and Practitioners will be equipped with a bright array of resources that will soon become an instinctive and internal ‘go to’ for all.
As well as increasing children’s awareness of their feelings and the feelings of others, we also introduce young children to mindfulness through mindful activities and mindful moments. These include:
Mindful Breathing Techniques
Developing Listening and Attention
Body Awareness and Relaxation
Kindness, Self-Love, Friendships and Belonging
